Eilis ni Dhuibhne: conversation before lunch

28 February 2019
An oddity as exotic and welcome as an elephant or a giraffe - that's how Eilis ni Dhuibhne describes June, and Irishwoman travelling in a Bulgarian village.

June is odd only because of her light eyes and hair, but the writer herself is far more exotic - one of Ireland's most important writers, winner of the PEN award, in a week will take her Bulgarian translation in her hands - and read it from beginning to end. About her favourite word from her Bulgarian studies, her best lunch, and her most boring moment of the day, we're talking to Eilis moments before she comes to Sofia for the book premiere.
