• In a car with Iskra Blagoeva

    19 April 2018

text Natalia Ivanova photos Mihail Novakov

Once she goes to Egypt, she turns into a small street and enters a "male" café, where she can hardly ever sit freely. Not only that, but she even calls a waiter, orders hookahs, tea and dominoes, and tells him to find her someone to play with. A few minutes later, everyone is already at her table. If you're wondering why we are telling this story, Iskra Blagoeva's art is exactly the same - she is not a "militant" feminist, but she is surely provocative about the place of women today making installations, objects, paintings and performances.

  • The things of life: Alex Dabi Zhevi

    1 February 2018

    text and photo Sevda Semer

In how many syllables do you articulate the answer to the question "where are you from"? For him, it’s probably a little more complicated. His parents are of Bulgarian descent, but he’s lived only in Australia and was last here as a small kid. A photographer, an independent publisher, an experimenter with language and text, Alex is here for the World of Co. residency. Studio and living arrangements aside, an important chance it gives him is to meet the city, its’ people and past.

  • How important is it to have Structura

    11 January 2018

    text Natalia Ivanova

We are surprised for a moment when we hear her saying that she is skeptical of contemporary art museums, but we quickly agree with the reason: "It must not be excluded as something extraordinary and extravagant but to exist as a part of the natural development of history." Maria Vassileva stands behind these words not only with her biography (she was the chief curator at Sofia City Art Gallery and the founder of the projects for young artists BASA, Place for Meetings and after 2010 of the Edmond Demirdjian Fondation), but also with her new gallery of contemporary art Structura.
