Azam Ali travels constantly but not with a huge rucksack and a map of faraway places in her pocket. She was born in Iran, grew up in India and the USA and her songs contain Persian poetry, Turkish folklore, Indian motives and European mid-century music.

In the last 20 years she's recorded dozens of songs in colaboration with great artist, such as cinema composer Tyler Bates (for the soundtrack of 300), the abstract guitarrist Buckethead and the percussionist Greg Ellis but her band Niyaz remains her most important project.
