"Maybe fate is a storm that takes us here and there," says Borisq who is a Russian, to his friend Tio, who, as he is used to, cries in a thick sweater. You shake your head approvingly from the seat, not because of the enthralling sentiment of the drug trafficker, but because the movie itself is a hurricane of events that blows the characters mercilessly.

The screenplay has actually turned out to be so fragmented that it will confuse the people who read Don Tart's book. 13-year-old Tio and his mother look at New York's Metropolitan Museum of Art, her favorite painting, The Goldfinch, when she was killed in a terrorist act, and he makes the first bad decision. Further, his father intervenes, and the boy's past becomes a fertile ground, from which taste for drugs and crimes, blossoming at the top with a love of fine art and antiquity, arose. If it sounds good, it's because the book has a strong enough storyline, but it doesn't fly on screen - director John Crawley (filming Brooklyn) has brought together great actors, but their characters are fragile and you don't understand what drives them. The film is otherwise beautifully shot by Roger Deakins, who, with his shelf of previous cinematic awards, exquisitely paints scenes in museums, antiques and New York apartments.
