Metropolitan Opera

22 February 2018
A month of live broadcasts of Metropolitan Opera overflow the hall in Cinema City Sofia before we can get in the queue. So we dropped Love Elixir and La Boheme, so now we are publishing the show in advance until the end of the season, and you are waiting for tickets (15/18BGN) at cinemacity.bg - they run them a month before the dates.

SEMIRAMIDE
At the Met Semiramide has not been performed for 25 years. Now it is being conducted by the veteran Maurizio Benini who always impresses with his sensitivity and finesse. He is a world renowned master of the bel canto repertoire. The production is under the direction of the 84 years old Brit John Copley who has also made a film version of the opera in 1990.

COSI FAN TUTTE
Tale as old as time – about love, jealousy, deceit and betrayal, but at the end the six characters need to find reconciliation. Mozart created an incredibly detailed musical imagery, which managed to polish the imperfections of the libretto, based upon an actual scandalous event from the life at the court. The composer directed the premiere in Wien only a day before his 34th birthday.

LUISA MILLER
Met Music Director Emeritus James Levine conducts a revival of Luisa Miller, which has not been seen at the Met since 2006. The maestro again joins forces with the great star of the opera world – Plácido Domingo, who had performed with a great success the role of the young and romantic Rodolfo, but now takes the part of the old soldier Miller.

CENDRILLON
The composer Jules Massenet called his opera “a fairy tale”. The French version of Cendrillon will be presented for the first time in the history of the Met under the direction of two Frenchmen – conductor Bertrand de Billy and the director and costume designer Laurent Pelly. Pelly is joined by the Belgian set designer Barbara de Limburg with whom he had worked on the same production at several other prestigious venues.
